When it comes to summer makeup, summer skin calls for “less is more”. While it is the perfect time to flaunt beautiful summer dresses and enjoy the warmer weather, you are also required to pay a special attention to your skin and makeup. I try to keep a basic beauty routine in the summer and stick to the products that suites my skin. The way you care for your skin is just as important as the makeup you apply to it. During summer I avoid wearing heavy makeup. Seriously, the last thing I need when I’m trying to beat the heat outdoors is hot mess makeup! Lightweight makeup and hydrating products are on the cards to make sure my skin looks healthy and glowing through the warmer weather. So here go my favorite makeup products that are actually great and gives a natural finished glow. I think these are also perfect for those who are new to makeup and want to try something light and quick. Let’s get started!

**Always prepare for makeup by cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen. You can also check my last post on my Favourite skin care products.

Primer: You won’t regret the few seconds it takes to apply a primer, which goes on after moisturizer but before face makeup. One of the main benefits of using a makeup primer is it seals your pores, It will help with prolonging the wear of your foundation as well as add a ‘smoothing’ and ‘blurring effect’ to your skin. I only apply primer when I am out for long periods of time and it really does make a difference. The primer I use is SMASHBOX Photo Finish Foundation Primer. It comes in classic, light, and pore minimizing. It’s not greasy nor drying, it extends the wear of your makeup considerably and also reduces the amount of makeup needed. Washes off easily and doesn’t cause breakouts. what else can we ask for??

Foundation: When it comes to wearing foundation on hot summer days, there’s only one word that comes to mind: struggle. The hot and humid weather can have disastrous effects on your face makeup, with heat making us become sweaty, shiny and even a little bit patchy. Like many women, I try to avoid heavy liquid foundations during the hotter months and go for tinted sunscreen, compact powder or gel based foundation.

MacStudio Tech Foundation: The MAC Studio Tech foundation comes in a compact package, and its consistency is thick and creamy. It provides a natural matte, powder-perfect finish. Its smooth to blend, easy to work with: provides a full range of coverage, hydrates skin, softens lines, creates a fresh and flawless finish. I’ve been wearing this for a while and, to be honest, I haven’t found anything like it. It evens my skin tone without the oily look of foundation and looks very natural on my face. You can barely tell that I’m wearing it. Its good for all skin types and comes in more than 26 shades.

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream SPF 30: After a proper research and trying different tinted sunscreens, I found this one. If you’re looking for products that will both protect your skin from the sun and enhance your natural beauty, look no further. I like BareMinerals entire makeup collection, including this one. This tinted sunscreen is wonderful for normal to dry skin because it moisturizes, provides anti-aging sun protection, and adds radiance while providing sheer, natural-looking coverage. Its gel-cream texture applies easily, setting to a satin-like dewy finish that adds a healthy glow. The finish is too moisturizing for those with combination or oily skin, though if you have a slightly oily skin you may find it workable—but have some powder ready for the shine-prone areas.

Compact powder: Perfect to give a gentle coverage while hiding the appearance of face oils that makes face look shiny. During summer I always apply a small amount of pressed powder to my makeup base. No matter what foundation I use, my face does get oily after a certain time when out in sun. Recently I have been using Clinique Almost Powder Makeup compact powder. This long-wear mineral formula helps keep pores out of trouble and antioxidants protect skin. I honestly love wearing it and it feels so good on the skin. Even a minimal amount of powder will set your makeup, smooth your skin, and stays long.

Blush: I am not much of a bronzer or contouring fan, but I really like to apply blush. It’s the easiest way to bring color and life to face. I prefer cream or gel blush, as it blends into the skin, instead of sitting on top like powders. Plus, when the humidity spikes, the powder can cake up and do that weird crumbling thing on the skin. MAC has some of the best blushes in cream and powder finishes. My current find is MAC Cremeblend blush. Its creamy texture, easy-to-blend formula imparts a natural finish that’s smooth, dewy fresh and long-lasting. The color won’t sink or disappear into your skin, offering coverage that lasts throughout the day.

**For longer faces, only apply blush to the small area at the top of the cheeks to de-emphasize the length of the face. For shorter faces, apply blush first at the top of the cheekbone and proceed at a downward angle.

Eyes and lips: For eye makeup. My eyebrows are very light. So, first I define my eyebrows with Etude House Drawing Eye Brow. This one is Amazon find and I have been using it for nearly two years. It’s not very expensive, lasts really long and gives nice definition to my eyebrows. Then, I apply Eyeshadow to my lids and finish up with eyeliner. For eyeshadow, I like to try new shades and brands. So, no particular favorite. I hardly use mascara ever. I know it gives a polished look and adds volume to the lashes but, it’s so difficult to take off. I simply apply eyeliner to my both eye-lids. As long as I remember, the only eyeliner I have used is L’Oréal Paris Infallible Never Fail Pencil Eyeliner. It comes with smudger which helps in getting the hot smokey eye look. It’s waterproof, lasts long and doesn’t fade or melt when put all day long.

If you guys follow me on Instagram then you might have noticed that I mostly apply bright color lipsticks. I feel neutral colors don’t look good on me or maybe I am more comfortable with that rosy lips. 🙂

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm is something I use most of the time. It’s actually soft on lips and lasts longer than most others I’ve tried. It comes in so many pretty colors for all seasons.

MAC huggable lip color (sheer look) and Urban decay matt lipstick(matt look) – I recently got these two from Nordstrom Rack. I have attached the pics of these two with swatches below – really nice color and looks perfect on lips. These are not the latest edition and that’s why I got it for less than half the actual price. If you are not that crazy to buy only the latest launched products, you should check out Nordstrom rack beauty section. Amazing deals on most high-end products.

**All these products are an easy find at Ulta, Macy’s, Sephora or their respective websites and even Amazon (most likely at a cheaper price).

I don’t use face mists or setting sprays to set my makeup but have heard good things about them. Do you guys suggest any?

What’s your makeup routine in summer? What products are your recent find? Please let me know in the comment section below.

Hope you guys have an awesome weekend.. 😊
