Ways to surprise someone special on Valentine’s day!

“Where there is love, there is life.” – Mahatma Gandhi

It’s a time of the year again, the month of love.. The countdown begins for the Valentines day!  Valentine’s day is a special day to celebrate love in our life a little more. Though there is no reason to celebrate love on a particular day and love should be celebrated every day. Valentine’s Day has become a tradition and it’s exciting to see those romantic vibes all around. When we think of Valentine’s Day, our mind is immediately filled with images of heart-shaped chocolate boxes, colourful balloons, greeting cards, love letters, and bouquets of red roses.  Although buying gifts may seem quite easy and required but there are plenty of other things you can do to show your love. Those sweet gestures would definitely bring a lovely smile on your special ones face.

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” – Lao Tzu

There are people who come into our lives in the most unexpected way, making seem everything more beautiful around us..  then we fall in love with them and feel as if life could not proceed without them.. We want to tell them how happy we are that they came into our lives. Whether you celebrate valentines day or not but you should express your love for them and tell them how grateful you are to have them in your life.. Life is short so it’s best to let others know about what you feel!

“Love is a condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.” – Robert Heinlein

We do so many things for our loved ones to make them happy.. The most obvious thing is gifts… yes, we love buying gifts but, sometimes gifts don’t get special when they are all fancy and expensive. What makes them special is you, your love, affection and honest feelings towards them.. effort you put in to make them happy…. Celebrating the people that matter most to us comes down to one thing: paying attention to them.

Few things in life are as satisfying as getting to see the warm, happy expression on your loved one’s face when you surprise them on Valentine’s, right? The moment they realize what a thoughtful gesture you planned is enough to surprise them!

“Loving someone and having them love you back is the most precious thing in the world”- Nicholas Sparks

Make a day of fun for your loved one: Dedicate this day to the one you love — plan a day filled with his/her favourite things. Think about what he/she loves to do, where he/she loves to eat, and where he/she loves to go and plan accordingly.  And if you are not sure of anything then just take a drive together, go for a nice dinner and then go for some show or a movie date works great too! Just do something different than how you normally hang out.

Make their favourite breakfast or food: Waking up to breakfast in bed, or walking into the kitchen to find their favourite food or snacks will make them feel extra special. It’s valentines day so get set go…  Get up early, make the breakfast, and put it where they usually sit for breakfast. Or you can take it into their bedroom and wake them up with a tray of their favourite food. This is a great idea for spouses and significant others, parents, children, siblings, and roommates.

Gifts: A gift basket or a gift box never fails to impress – especially on Valentine’s Day.   Gift something that’s meaningful to you, something your partner will like, that will make them think of you. It’s always good to listen when they talk and notice their choices when out on shopping- it’s a nice way to get some idea about their likes and choices. Gift something that will be liked. If your partner or your special one wants something specifically then gift it…  If it’s too expensive for your budget, then get something totally different but don’t go for anything similar in a cheaper version just for the formality. Try to get something that brings back a fond memory of a special moment you share, give something special that will be cherished forever.

Get creative: Scrapbooks are sweet, inexpensive ideas. You can reflect on all your positive memories by pasting photos and old notes into it, and even stick in some ideas for future dates for the two of you. Write a scrapbook about your relationship. From the day you guys met until now. Make sure you remember the dates and to have pictures too would be great. It definitely will make a lovely surprise! Note that this takes a lot of time to be really good, so if you’re only thinking of it the night before, save this thought for next year.

Small surprises: To surprise your loved one, decide what he/she likes. Then leave little surprises for him/her during the day at his/her regular spots. Leave a surprise by the bed, washroom, kitchen, car or whatever places they are most likely to go in and around the house. You don’t have to put a diamond ring everywhere.. small packs of chocolates, tickets to some events, handwritten notes, greeting cards with your sweet message could do so much!

Don’t forget the card! Buy a card with a nice message wishing them the valentines day… Just make sure to handwrite something personal on the inside. If you don’t want to write a lot, just say how much they mean to you and how much you care about them and value your relationship. Thank them for all they have done for you. It will make that card so special and worth keeping it forever..

Write a note to the person: Write a personalized letter and you can write anything from those sweet memories, funny incidents, or meaningful words to show them how special they are to you.  Don’t worry if you can’t think of something super-awesome to write. It’s the idea that matters, that you’ve put some effort…

When it comes to surprising men, what women might seem cute and adorable isn’t necessarily the same for men. Make sure not to confuse your own desires with theirs.  If an expensive watch is your idea of an ideal gift, ask yourself if that would mean the same thing to him. Would a surprise gift be of more value or an evening out along with you? It’s good to first know your partner and act upon it!  Be sensitive to his interests, desires, his way of thinking and personality. Make him feel special, make him feel loved..

When it comes to surprising your women, I know for most of you guys the most obvious thing to do for her is get her some of her favourite chocolates, buy jewellery or any special gift, a nice bottle of wine and beautiful flowers.. yup! all set… Most of us have been following this tradition… so what’s new? well.. just a few checkpoints for you guys to get it all perfect!

  • If you want to gift something sweet then get her a framed picture of you two.
  • Write a list of the reasons you love/like her. Make sure the list is sincere and meaningful. Write it yourself, even if you have really bad handwriting. she will love it for sure!
  • When going for an outing just don’t let her pay for any expenses like dinner, movie etc…
  • When buying gifts for her just keep her choice in mind. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just meaningful. Make sure to take all price tags off!  Do not get her a ring unless you’re planning to propose.
  • Small gestures like cooking dinner or playing some game that involves your time together can be a good idea even if she doesn’t want a big gift.
  • Don’t complain to her about not knowing what to get or you didn’t plan anything because you were concerned that she may not like it. I know, your intentions are good but it’s better not to say anything… She loves you and it won’t matter much whether you surprise her or not… Just be there for her.. always!

Valentine’s day is not just a couple thing.. Just because you are single doesn’t mean you have to feel disconnected. Take advantage of your time of being single. Enjoy it, embrace these moments, and use it to learn to be comfortable with yourself, love yourself, enjoy with your family or friends. Go to one of your favourite restaurant or any place you enjoy hanging out and make V-Day about celebrating people who make a difference in your life. Take some time for yourself, pamper yourself with some relaxing spa, beauty service or just go shopping(Treat yourself with something special)… Valentine’s day is all about the celebration of love and self-love is the best kind…  Valentine’s day can be the perfect excuse to do things that excite you even if you don’t like celebrating this day…

Whether you celebrate Valentine’s day or not. Just be grateful for the amazing life you have and for all the people, your family, friends, partner… What matters most is the way your partner treats you and how you treat them the other 364 days of the year. Just don’t judge them for not planning something special or not showing any excitement for the valentines day.  The pressure shouldn’t fall on this one occasion to be perfect and don’t let it represent your entire relationship. Valentine’s Day is just a day. It can be a happy one, but if you or your partner are not happy about it, just keep things simple.

  3. On Valentine’s Day, when my daughter was little, we would all jump into bed together in the master bedroom and have a cake picnic! We did this during the different holidays for years and years…a fond memory for sure.
