23 Useful Blogging Tips To Grow Your Blog, Create Good Content And Get more Followers!

“Don’t focus on having a great blog. Focus on producing a blog that’s great for your readers.” – Brian Clark

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Albert Schweitzer

We all like to become successful in everything we do. As bloggers, we want our blogs to be successful within the shortest possible time. Success has a different definition for different peoples. But, it’s every blogger’s dream to have more and more readers interested in their blog. So, recently I had published a post regarding 1000 followers milestone and many of you wanted to know the secret behind getting those many followers in just 4 months of blogging… There are no secrets or any magic that will bring success in the world of blogging but it is a combination of good luck, hard work, and consistency. So, here I share some of my learnings and blogging tips that would probably help in growing your blog and get more views on your posts. So, let’s dig in….

“Ideas are easy. Implementation is hard.” – Guy Kawasaki

Finding your niche: The key to building a successful blog is finding the right niche. If you pick a niche with too much competition, your blog will get beaten down by high ranking websites. If you pick not so popular niche with no demand, your blog will barely make an impact. The key is to find a balance among your interest, the popular trends, and the level of competition. You can blog about several topics or you can blog about one specific thing, make blogging more fun instead of a chore. It’s best to blog on evergreen topics that would always be searched by people, no matter the trends or season. Find a topic which fascinates you and always try to do a proper research on topics you write about. Blogging is not only about sharing knowledge, but it’s also about educating yourself.

“If you can learn something new every day, you can teach something new every day.” Martha Stewart

Post more frequently or on regular basis: Be consistent and keep blogging according to a schedule. It will take a while before you start seeing hundreds of visitors coming to your site. If you post new content regularly and written in a style people enjoy, readers are likely to return again and again to see what you have to say and there could be a chance of those readers turning into followers.

Posting every day won’t work for everyone: If you are an established blogger with a significant number of followers and page views, posting every day would work great for you.. For someone quite new to blogging: You publish a post every day and it’s only up at the top of your blog for that day. If you publish a post once, twice a week or so, it would be at the top of your blog for longer days. And a post will get more exposure if it is up at the top for longer… People will interact with it more since it’s the latest, most relevant content for a longer period of time. So when you are just starting out, instead of writing multiple short articles, I would suggest you to write in-depth articles with good content. It could really help you in the long run.

If you love blogging, then do it. Do it with everything you’ve got. Just don’t plan on using it as a shortcut to making a living.

Make a note of ideas or topics that pop up in your mind: It’s always nice to write a note every time a good idea pops into your head. There are times when you read someone’s post or it could be just in between a conversation with your friends that a great idea for your posts just clicks in. Just write a note that will help remind you what it was and when you get some spare time then you could turn it into a great content. Creating multiple draft posts on random topics really helps a lot. Plan your writing schedule and make some time each day to think about future blog posts.

Write catchy headlines: Without a compelling headline, even the most comprehensive blog post will go unread. The title of your post is a major factor influencing whether readers click over or not. Write meaningful titles that convey the essence of your blog posts. Create headlines that your readers should be able to guess what the article is all about by looking at the headline itself.

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” – Albert Einstein

Write contents to connect with your readers: Matching your audience up with the right topic is a huge first step. If you decide to write about a topic that nobody is interested in, you’re going to struggle to get traffic, no matter how good your content is. Creating strong ideas and writing them down in a way that moves people is what calls for a great post. Put a few questions or scenarios in your posts from time to time so the reader can relate the article to themselves. Lastly, let your writing show who you are – be real and let your personality show through your writing. The great way to earn that much-needed trust is by opening up and sharing your own, personal experiences.

“There’s a lot of information out there for free, so you’ve got to figure out what makes your information different.” – Matt Wolfe

Write longer contents in an interesting way: The best way to write a good content is – write in-depth and comprehensive posts. Write for your readers, with their problems, issues, and aspirations in mind. Content is the king but you also need to develop a good and interesting writing style to attract more readers to your blog. Long, rambling blog posts with no clear direction or sections will make it difficult for a reader to be interested in your blog. Break up your text with bullet points, headlines, and a large featured image to make your content more interactive.

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas Edison

Invite readers to engage through the comments: Once you’ve written your post, sign off with a question directed to your readers. Ask them what they think of the post – did they like it, have they got anything they may want to add? What tips could they provide that you may have missed? Always reply to the comments on your post in an engaging way and show your readers that you value their opinion.

Add an ‘About me’ page: The about page (Read mine) is where other bloggers get to know who you are and what your blog is about. Show off your best and the real side, link to your popular stories, make it easy for people to subscribe to your content and add your social media links to your blog – this will make your bio more relatable to someone who doesn’t know you.

“If people like you they will listen to you, but if they trust you they’ll do business with you.” – Zig Ziglar

Homepage with a clear objective: Since your home page is the most common entrance to your website, it should describe how visitors will benefit from your content, products, or services. Make your homepage easy to navigate and explore.

Link Internally: Add Link to your new post from your old posts. Those links drive traffic to those older post. When creating and publishing content, be sure to keep an eye out for opportunities for internal links. As internal linking also helps with your SEO and will get the newly published post to rank higher.

Keep your blog User-friendly: Your blog design is important. It’s like the cover of your book. If it’s boring or cluttered, it will drive readers away even if your content is great. If your blog looks organized and put together, readers will stay longer. If someone takes the time to read through your post and the information resonates with them, it leads to more shares and more dedicated readers. Ensure that your website is simple and comfortably viewable across a range of devices, including smartphones.

Avoid placing too many ads: Think of the reader first and the revenue later. Advertising is important but if you only focus on the commercials, it will be difficult to build a loyal audience. Stay away from networks that allow scam ads or ads popping here and there on your site. Lesser the distractions, nicer is the user experience and more time the reader will spend on your site.

Engage with other peoples blog: Reading other peoples blog and commenting is a great way to acknowledge other people’s work and most of them would come to your blog to return the favor. I’ve gotten plenty of traffic from people who clicked over to my blog simply because I left a long, engaging comment on someone else’s post. Leave meaningful comments on other blogs and contribute to a topic of discussion. Once you start engaging with other bloggers, it would definitely help in building a stronger community surrounding your blog. When you start networking, you’ll notice you get more traffic, shares, and engagement on your blog. Also, respond to your readers’ comments, it’s good to let your readers know that you appreciate them for spending their precious time on your blog.

Make use of other social platforms: Simply creating social media profiles and sharing your latest articles won’t cut it. You need to get creative with your sharing strategy. Experiment with Facebook Live, Twitter, Instagram posts and Stories, LinkedIn groups, Google+ and Snapchat, it helps bring those social visits back to your site. Pinterest can be a great source of traffic to your blog. Promoting your content on Instagram for maximum engagement is by using its Stories feature. While more users are active on Instagram, Snapchat remains king in terms of daily usage and engagement. Using Snapchat to promote your content can help you drive organic traffic directly within the app. Also, it’s always good to tweet your latest post on Twitter and pin it to profile.

Promote your blog: There’s a lot more to promoting a blog post than just sharing on your social media accounts. Many bloggers fail to get traffic because they take a passive approach to blogging; if you simply publish your article, share on social media and wait for traffic to come then nothing much will happen. There are various ways to promote your blog: Email marketing, social media sharing, content sharing sites(Triberr, Reddit), also, include your blog link to your social media profiles. Promoting your blog posts in a proper way will certainly help get you more visibility.

Join Blogging groups: There are facebook bloggers club, telegram groups, WhatsApp and many websites dedicated to blogging where members promote themselves; in short, every community member promotes each other’s content and benefit from the support of each other. It’s a great way to connect with bloggers from your niche and that would result in more views and shares on your blog.

“The key to social media is being social.” – Eli Fennell

Feature or collaborate with other bloggers: Collaborating with other bloggers to write a post together or having a guest blogger post on your blog could help in getting more traffic to your blog. Once you have a blogger featured in your posts, tag them in a tweet to let them know. Chances are that blogger will retweet and share a post mentioning them, getting more shares and more traffic as a result. At wordpress, you get to participate in several bloggers award nominations (don’t know about other platforms) like Mystery blogger, Liebster blogger awards and it really helps for a new blogger in getting more exposure. Also, such awards are a great way to let your readers know more about you with their interesting questions series.

Guest blog: One of the ways to grow your blog is by writing for other people’s blogs; in other words, you can look for a more established blog with a similar niche of yours and write an article for that blog. Guest posting can lead to new readers checking out your blog and subscribing to your blog. This can be a great way to reach a new audience. But, in case of some big sites where you guest blog, people might just read your content and move on. So, just be selective of your options, so that your efforts don’t go wasted.

A good SEO strategy: Search engines are a great source of traffic for most of the established blogs. Taking the right measures when it comes to SEO can increase your blog traffic within a short period of time. Things like using the right title tags, having a catchy description, ensuring that your site is easy to navigate, etc, can certainly be helpful for your blog.

Use appropriate tags: Appropriately tagging your posts makes it easier for other bloggers to find specific topics they’re looking for. Just be specific with our tags and don’t use tags that are not related to your topic.

Blogging requires networking and connections to grow your blog. Connect with your blog audience and improve engagement on your blog, because the more relationships you built around your blog, the more your readers will grow and improve. Following, commenting and sharing others blog is a great way to grow your blog. Don’t get discouraged by negative feedback. You will always find some people who have bad things to say about what you have written. If the comment is too aggressive or offensive, it is best to remove it from the blog and you could anytime block the user. Your peace and sanity are important!

I am not an expert to give any advice on blogging but sharing my knowledge with an intention to help is why I thought of writing this post. I hope this post benefits you all in some way.

Oh and also, wanted to know.
Doen’t it take up a lot of time to do all the promotions part in all of those sites?
Also, in my social bubble, there’s barely people who go through blogs!
Would you have any idea on how I could work on this speedbreaker?

Very useful and engaging advice. My niche for “aftereden.blog” is between the garden and the academy. That is just who I am after 41 years teaching medieval literature and 15 years being a Master Gardener. But I try to include something practical, something philosophical about this life After Eden, and something personal in each post. I’ll take many of your suggestion to heart.
